Healing our Animal Pals…

horsedogcatchicken

I wanted to write a piece about the spiritual science of health and that it covers every living thing on earth. I venture to say that I know more about this kind of healing and I am using it in the context of animals today.

I have worked in the field of healing for domestic, farm animals and have also worked with these animals as aids in healing for almost 35 years now. Having began this work about age 10.  The kind/s of work I do on animals is pretty much the same as people. However animals can be great allies in healing for humans, plants, earth and water. The generals in health for animals are similar to humans but one thing that is not the same is how they communicate and not many humans are designed or open enough to hear their inner chatter with animal/s. Humans and animals have both been lumped into modern health care systems that for the most part keep the majority of illness in check, but in the long run breed levels of illness that will go ignored and eventually shorten our lives and the lives our animal brothers and sisters. I do not think there is one size fits all to health and its many levels of function for the organic materials that we are living in and this covers animals to. I am not going to debate soul or no soul about animals, which I think is a dumb ass debate since everything is energy and everything that has ever lived as energy will always be. I am in no way the expert and since energy flows, weaves, vibrates, changes constantly. I prefer to stay on the end of watching, adapting and study to provide better health remedies. I find new pieces to my health and healing puzzle every day. It is not finite.

The work I currently do with animals is as follows: medical intuitive work that mostly is about listen and watching the animal, I do not do animal communication work, restoration and recovery of health through structural actions, [AUP] a brain re-boot system that can arrest disease of all kinds, animal chiropractic studied with the man who created it in America, acupuncture and traditional Osteopathic medicine,, shamanism healing work, herbal medicine and at least 5 types of energy healing on the animals. Though I have more defined work on people for the fact of advertising, my work with animals sometimes is much more powerful for me than working on people. Yes, there are many times I must shift the health of the people who manage and master the animals in poor health. Animal/s can be collectors, clearing the health issues of the human/s on an emotional level. Over time becomes too much and the animal/s energy field is so over burdened and it dies. When we are looking at animal health it seems to me there are many more branches that simple medicine can handle. We have to really begin to open to the information that has been here for 1000 of years. It is known and what medicine has become is not very old, not well tested. I want to add here that I have witnessed what dark spirit/s, energies, and force/s, possession/s of home and people that are big serious threats for animals. Many animals die with unexplained illnesses from exposure to these entities or are beaten to death by these forces that see them as weaker. If you feel that your animal/s is being threatened it is your duty to remove them to a safe place until you get the situation under control.

In the powerful healing work by Black Elk and what he became capable of doing, what he came to know and learn, he said it came from the bear. Black Elk in many accounts said that he followed two different bears around to learn his craft. One of the bears was physical form and Black Elk would follow this bear into the forest watching the bear dig up roots and plants daily learning the physical medicine bear was doing. Black Elk learned how to use medicines hidden in the earth from bear to cure people in his tribe and many others who came to him by his exceptional reputation for healing. Bear is the master of health in the physical world; bear knows how to heal with roots, herbs and plants in the woods and the forest. The second bear was what I call the “night dream” bear or spirit bear. The dreaming world bear came to Black Elk as an alley, teacher and taught him how to use the medicines of the bear for people. Bear would come to Black Elk in the dream world as a teacher.

Dr. Jarvis says in his folk medicine book about how our pioneer ancestors learned about the plants and ways to heal when coming to America. He implies that it was watching and learning from the animals. Jarvis writes: I have come to marvel at the instinct of animals to make use of natural laws for healing themselves. They know unerringly which herbs will cure what ills. Wild creatures first seek solitude and absolute relaxation, then they then rely on the complete remedies of Nature – the medicine in plants and pure air. A bear grubbing for ferns roost; a wild turkey compelling her babies in a rainy spell to eat the leaves of the spice bush; an animal bitten by a poisonous snake, confidently chewing snakeroot – all of these typical examples. An animal with fever quickly hunts up and airy, shady place near water, there remaining quiet, eating nothing but drinking often until its health is recovered. On the other hand, an animal bedeviled by rheumatism finds a spot of hot sunlight and lies in it until the misery bakes out.

In another blog I am writing we will discuss nutritional ideas for animals and how to help them find and get what they need.

From the book, The teachings of Don Carlos: Don Juan often referred to the existence of magical animals whose magic made them practically invulnerable; they were not likely to be captured by hunters. Their power was derived from the fact that – unlike ordinary animals- they had no routines. This endowed them with the lightness, freedom, and extraordinary power. He said it would be fortunate indeed to encounter one of these beings. The same holds true for plants and other living beings. The energy of a tree, for instance, can be so powerful that it simply resting in its shade or among its branches will produce a great, generally beneficent, effect.

Lastly I wanted to write about my Great Grand Mother my first Shamanic/ Medicine Woman in my life. Still to this day she is the most powerful being I have come in contact with on earth. This story is not a new story; many of us have heard a version of this story told about a person of great awareness in our past history. However what I am writing about here is a story about Billy my early light of this world and teacher. This story was told to me by her daughter my grand mother who was a real “prophet”. I was told that my bloodline of women on my mother’s side went back before the times of Jesus and that the women in Jesus’s life were from the same bloodlines of shaman level lineage that I come from. Our women taught Jesus the arts that he later used and became famous for. We taught Jesus how to use elemental forces as in walking on water, turning water into wine, hands on healing and manifesting thousands of fish from one. What Jesus did was old school sorcery arts, elemental power and forces, the power in lives in everything and can manifest world/s, things, actions and events into the reality around us. This knowledge is used by dark energies and light. Choice is always the users. Animals seem to be not easily possessed by dark forces and why they seem to be harmed first or removed first by dark forces.

I was told that Billy my great grand mother not only healed people, earth but animals as well. She believed in the power that animals had to help, heal themselves and our job was to connect them to the power within and take notes, assisting the animal in its own healing. It should be mentioned that all healers are facilitators and magicians. Whenever people brought the sick to us our family it was out of desperation. We were never fully accepted into the world we live to much religious doctrine to keep the masses under control and asleep for centuries and invested serious fear about us. Our people, my people were not the norm even to this day. There are controllers of the main stream field/s of alternative medicine and they have made ever attempt to constantly threatening me, destroying my work and just project darkness towards me. My work surpasses what can be found in the main stream alternative, it is impeccable and it threatens the foundation of the main stream which is also propaganda built. I cannot even imagine the strength the women doing this work before me what they endured but I can only be great’ful that they were impeccable and their medicine flows through me and some others to this day. now the rest of the story.

One day a man brought his prize horse that was very sick to Billy. Nothing the man was doing including having the horse looked over medical personnel was of any benefit to the horse. The man did not want to loose his horse and in this mans last ditch effort took the horse to Billy. Billy told the man to leave the horse and come back in several days to retrieve it.

Immediately Billy looked over the horse, building a connection, a friendship of trust with the being. Billy sat and watched the horse for a full day but nothing came to her about the state of the horse, there was nothing she found visibly to do for it. The next day Billy harnessed the horse and proceeded to take the horse on a long walk through the forest. Billy hoped that the horse’s awareness would wake up, kick in and help her to find the medicine to heal what was disturbing the horse’s health. After several hours the horse began to lean its head towards the ground licking at certain plants in the forest. Billy took this as a sign that these plants the horse was signaling to were what the horse was requesting for her to pick. Every time the horse would lean down and lick at the plant/s, Billy would take the plant/s gently from the earth, placing them into a bundle she carried. The next day Billy returned to her home with horse. She emptied the massive bundle onto the ground. She let the horse give her indications on the medicine plants, roots, and herbs. The horse made no direct indications. Billy lit up her big metal cauldron outside, placed pure water from the stream than ran past her home and then added the medicinal plants into the cauldron. Today we would call this steeping. When the cauldron cooled she brought the horse to it and let the horse drink the medicinal mixture. The horse drank every bit. The next day Billy again made the mixture and the horse drank it. There was a smell that started to come out of the horse and within several days a tumor “like” clump was eliminated by the horse. The man arrived several days later and his horse was completely changed around. Billy explained what had happened and that the man should continue the mixture until the bundle of herbs she handed him was gone. The horse went on to live on for a long time, it was said that the man died much sooner than the horse.

Sometime healing takes us to another level of awareness that does not make sense to our minds. However if used, followed can lead us to wellness in ways we never imagined it can be applied eventually to the world around us and all that is including in our reality especially our animal counter parts. Maybe if we are inclined to adopt a new perspective we could include animals into the sacred world which teaches us and units all living things. And if we can let go of our ego/s and our belief of supremacy over this world maybe we could share in the healing, health and wellness with animal being/s. I suspect we might actually learn something!

Unconscious Imprinting…

cherryblossom1-300x225

This is a photo of water that was placed in contact with a cherry blossom and then frozen.  I would have to say that a cherry blossom has a beautiful effect on water.

I woke up early this morning with the idea for this blog, something I feel is seriously important if we want to have a conversation about food — clean, green food.  I am not going to go into all the aspects of how we and the things around us imprint on water.  You will have to click the links to study that information.  Most of you reading this may have already had some experience with the water imprinting process.

http://www.whatthebleep.com/crystals/

http://www.unitedearth.com.au/watercrystals.html

What I want to discuss is that every living thing, which includes soil, contains a certain amount of water.   Human cells are 65-90% water.   Many plants have an even higher water content.

If water has a sort of “memory” and can be imprinted, what does that mean for living things that are made up largely of water?

Research done by Russian scientists, including Leonid Izvekov and Vlail Kaznacheyev,  shows the serious implications to us, our planet, the water around us that we drink, and the food we eat.  Watch “Water: The Great Mystery.”  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlWboI_0obk)

Now, if we can imprint water with thoughts or energies, and everything that is living on the earth, including ourselves, is mostly water, what has been imprinted on this water in our food that we do not know about or completely understand?  For me this is a no-brainer.   I have spent the last 25 years doing “Energetic and Structural Medicine.”  For others, it may be a hard idea to swallow, and that is OK.  I see energy and the imprinting of it as the source of what makes us better or what makes us sicker.

A few years ago I was sitting on a porch eating an apple.  It was an organic apple, one that I purchased from Whole Foods.  As I was munching along I became sad, down in the dumps, with a feeling that the whole world was wrong and unfair.  It had been a perfect day.  I had been gardening — digging in the dirt, which is the closest to Heaven I get here on Earth.  I had drunk plenty of water (which I began imprinting with joy starting in 2006), and had just stopped to rest and have bit of lunch, which included an apple.

I began to explore my own mind looking for signs, thoughts, old issues surfacing, something creating a trigger in me for this sad feeling.  After scanning all possible data for what the source might be, a stroke of insight hit me square! The down-in-the-dumps trigger was the apple.  Someone had imprinted the water in the apple!

I know that my mouth must have been gaping open something like a stroke victim.  I started seeing a mental picture, a timeline of events in the life of this apple, and it went backwards.   I saw the apple handler at Whole Foods taking it out of the box, thinking about his life.   With each thought, the apple was imprinted with information and emotion.

The next image was of a worker picking the apple in South America.  I wondered how he had been feeling when he picked it.  What was the imprint on the apple at that moment?

The last flash was of the land owner of the orchard where the apple was grown.  He was crying.  Maybe someone had died?  Maybe he was afraid that the bank was going to take his land?  Maybe he was just tired?

For the past two years, I’ve been thinking about imprinting whenever I am choosing water-based food. When I choose an apple, I now ask my higher self to help me pick the apple with the highest amount of nutrition and the highest imprinting of love and joy.

I am learning to farm, so I now prefer food from the farms I go to.  I know where what I am eating is grown, who it was grown by, and sometimes I get to pick it myself with the highest amount of love imprinting I can muster. This is my number one reason to own my own land and grow all of my own food.

Imprinting your own food after you get it home may be the next best thing you can do.  I suggest doing it at least twice.  The first time you take an item out of the bag, hold it, and using green heart-energy, send it all the love you have. Then, when you are ready to eat or cook the item, do it again. You will have the greatest effect on what you are putting in your body by your own imprinting.

When I water a garden and I have to use city water, it worries me.  I turn the situation around by praying, sending waves of love and thought to the water.

My desire is that every imprint on food be one of love.  As soon as seeds are planted, they begin to take on water, so from day one you can imprint with whatever you desire using water.  If you are struggling with illness, grow your own food and imprint it with healing light and love.

When I was raising meat birds I would spend time making sure their every need was taken care of in a loving way.  I blessed the water for them.   I imprinted them with thoughts and words of how beautiful they were.  Before I slaughtered them I honored them, thanking them and hugging them with love.

I feel that the energetic imprint is much more important than the nutrition factor.  So what if your apple’s nutritional level matches the highest standards and it was grown organically?  Was the person who picked it hung over?  Angry?  Overworked?   Unhealthy?  Stressed out?  For me, the overall value of the apple would be determined by the imprint; I really do not want any more anger or unconscious programming.

The work I do imprinting my food is the only thing I can control about it.   That can be enough to give me hope to run that extra mile during grim times!

Nutritional labels and the Microbs within…

labelbridge

I have been doing alternative care work with animals since I was eight years old and have been working on people for over 25 years now.  The subject that I’m going to be discussing came up in one of my bio-dynamic classes a few months ago.  While on the subject of nutrition, labeling was brought up. I have to say that what I heard stunned me, but I knew deep inside that it was the truth.

So I felt that it was imperative to bring it to the blog and allow others to read this information and act accordingly. It may take some time for this to sink in; I know it did for me.  It shows me that what I still believe in is going on around me, but time and time again the proof is that it is a big lie, a hoax. Nutrition is a serious part of our lives and we are not getting any!

Disease is the breakdown of the microbe  forces in the system. Inflammation is the outcome of the breakdown.  All disease in the body starts with inflammation and the aging process is one of inflammation.  If you’re able to slow down or completely eradicate the inflammation, you will become disease free and will look 30 years younger.  Nutrient and a vegetable-based diet are the keys.  Just because you eat vegetables or what you may think is a “good diet” does not mean it has nutrition in it unless the food is grown by farmers who are aware of the soil values.  Even if the food is considered “organic” it may not have nutrient in it.  You may not be aware of this, but leaf veggies lose all of the nutrient three days after they are cut from the plant.  How old is the lettuce in your fridge in that plastic bag?

The following is a short and brief explanation of what inflammation is. When Western medicine looks at your blood to diagnose your disease, they are looking at a cellular level, at the cell.  This is why most treatments do not work.  You have to look deeper, much deeper.  “Alternative medicine” which is actually ”traditional medicine” in some parts of the world such as Asia, Russia, India and all Native peoples, dates back over 10,000 years.  Western medicine which is typically what you will find at the doctor’s office or hospital is less than a 100 years old.

Some Alternative practitioners use a method called dark field hematology. They prick your finger, get a drop of blood, and put it on a piece of glass and look at it under a microscope.  This technique goes much deeper than the cell.  It is more effective than drawing 40 tubes of blood and Western doctors cannot seem to find anything wrong with you.   However, you know, you feel that something is not right.

I have worked on both sides of this equation.  I spent five months in a hospital doing blood work, lab work as an intern. What I witnessed there was frightening and Western medicine says that alternative is barbaric!  There’s no love, no caring  in those places, just dollar bills.  I only practice the alternative and have most of my life.  Especially in the last ten years since being diagnosed with a brain tumor, I am very serious about what kind of treatments I do, what choices I make about my body, and who I go to for it.  It took me years to heal myself.  And the bottom line is this: nutrition and diet are the only things that can reverse what ails you, period.  You may be spirit in a body, but you cannot exist here without this body and the body needs clean, green, nutrient-rich food to run its biological functions.  Otherwise, the body slowly dies.

Microbe 101.  In every cell you have a microbe. When the body is healthy, the microbe stays in the middle of the cell.  The pressure is perfect for them in the red cell.   When water and oxygen are being absorbed by the cell, the microbes are happy.  Stress, disease, injuries can cause an astronomical shift in the cells.   Not enough water or exercise can also result in the body taking in less air and will disrupt the cells’ environment.

Thinking is also on this list.  Negative thinking, fear, and stress produce the cortisol hormone.  Think of this along the same line as having battery acid running through your system which causes serious damage.  When the cell becomes tired, damaged, or is not being fed proper nutrient in the food supply, the microbe  leaves the cell and inflammation is created.  I am mainly focusing on the red blood cells.   If this course of action continues over an extended period of time, say, 20 years,  the cells that are the most damaged will develop into cancer and many other diseases.  I define the word ”disease” as anything that happens to the body that is countering the health, vitality and energy of the body.  Bruce Lipton has many lectures on this topic.  You may want to watch his stuff on the net.

There is another very serious issue here as well.  When the microbe leaves the cell and the cell can no longer absorb water or air it becomes limp and will stick to other cells.   This is inflammation.  When this happens, it causes a red cell stroke as the cells cannot get through the channels.  I have known many people who had a stroke and were cut open to find nothing that would have caused it, such as placque on the walls, etc.      This is because it was a red cell stroke due to heavy amounts of inflammation blocking and clogging the blood flow channels.

Fresh, green local organic produce grown by people who love to farm, harvested and eaten right away have oxygen, the max amount of nutrient and filtered water taken in by the plant.  These are the three crucial ingredients needed by the microbes and cells.  The gentleman who authored “The Maker’s Diet” talks about having five diseases by age 25 and was dying.  He came from a long line of western doctors who were unable to help him.  He ended up eating rich, black soil /dirt to heal himself and within six months was completely healed.  This is because the soil was rich in nutrient and healthy microbes that his system needed.

In chemical soil, there are no microbes.   In overworked soil, there are no microbes.   In one crop farms, even organic farms, there’s not enough microbes.   That is why sprays and all sorts of chemical fertilizers need to be added because there are not enough microbes to do the job naturally.  This is also the case with your body.   The microbes are the center of your body and how it will operate.  If you do not give the microbes what they need, you will end up taking many chemicals in the form of pills, creams and treatments that will further destroy the microbes.  Radiation kills the microbes that we need to bring health to our bodies.  When you go to the airport and go through the radiation X-ray machine, this will damage and kill the already sick microbes in your body which may ultimately result in your death sentence in the long run.

In some spiritual science circles there is a direct connection to microbes in the soil and water in the form of rain.  Since the 1900s, studies were done by brilliant minds about the correlation to microbes in healthy soil and the ecosystem which brought rain to it and the soil that was lacking microbes by the manner in which it was farmed and the drought that was brought on by it.

The label which I posted on this blog demonstrates what I am talking about right now, this part of the blog. What I am about to tell you should change your thoughts about buying anything in any kind of packaging ever again and that your diet focus should be on growing your own food and eating a vegetable-based diet.  When labeling products first came out in the 50s, it was to legitimately tell consumers the nutrient values in the product after it was processed. Products like orange juice that have been on the market a very long time have never been forced to update the labeling from the first time it was analyzed.  This means that any orange juice company can just add the 1950′s label of the original values onto their product without actually doing their own product study to discover what it truly does and does not contain now in 2012.

The big picture here is that the orchards in which oranges are grown are mono culture, one crop.  They no longer have any nutrient in them!  By the time they process it and cook it to make it safe, any nutrient that may have been present is completely gone.  A plant and tree will produce a fruit.   However, this does not mean that the soil has nutrient or microbes.  The same can be said for the plant producing the fruit and the fruit itself.  We have created a culture of food where we put chemicals on the soil and plants to make them think they are getting what they need to grow and produce fruit, when, actually, we have tricked them.

Looking at labels is a joke!   The older the product, the longer it has been on the market, the less nutrient it will have and companies are not being forced to re-evaluate their products as they are allowed to use the existing labels already on products.  Obviously new products such as pomegranate juice may have more nutrient if the labels were made in the 80′s.  If consumers knew the truth, they would not buy lies.

Beware and be aware of what you’re buying.  Ask questions!  Get the facts and grow your own food or as much as you can.  If you heal the microbes in your own soil and grow the plants you eat, then they will go into your body and heal the microbes within.  If you follow this advice you will never need a doctor again.

A Season 4 everything…

Urban_Farm_Project_Logo2a_1280x720_HD (2)

4 everything there is a season:

FALL

is a good time: to have your soil evaluated; to prune roses, shrubs and bushes; to apply compost and put mulch or chips on areas of the yard that need nutrient; to remove plants and trees that are dead or not growing well ; to have / use biodynamic organic sprays for leaves to help fruit to mature; to cover sensitive plants for winter; to deal with erosion areas; to glean remaining produce; to collect and dry seeds; to build a winter cold frame; to replace organic material in your cold frame; to plant in your cold frame; to plant winter crops  as seedlings.

WINTER

is a good time: to prune trees and cut back last year’s growth; to create an effective food storage operation so that your fall and winter produce will last as long as you need it to; in late winter, to start sprouting seeds to plant as seedlings in spring gardens; to create a culinary herb window garden; to plan your summer garden; to build containers to harvest water.

SPRING

is a good time: to have soil evaluated; to plant new trees and plants; to build raised beds; to put in a new garden area; to have / use biodynamic organic sprays for soil fertility and root growth; to dig up rocky, sandy and clay areas and bring in new soil; to plant deep- rooting plants for erosion areas; to harvest rain / snow water; to direct seed in cold frames to grow into seedlings for summer gardens.

SUMMER

is a good time: to have soil evaluated; to have biodynamic organic sprays applied for soil fertility and root growth; to have / use biodynamic organic sprays for increased growth and fruit; to deal with molds and pests; to harvest produce; to collect and dry seeds; to build a cold frame for winter crops; to collect your seeds for a winter garden; transplant spring seedlings; to start winter seedlings by direct seeding; to remove the used organic materials from cold frame and put it on an area of your yard that needs compost.

I was creating a flyer for the Urban Farm Project here in Reno I had the  idea of putting on it the farming, gardening activities of every season in an attempt to get people 1) more motivated about their urban domains of food production and 2) to place the  flyer on their refridgerator as a reference on what they can do every season or perhaps hiring COE to help them!

Feel free to print a copy off this blog. Put it somewhere to remind you of where to focus your attention each season. It is not a completed list. If I have missed something feel free to let me know what it was and I will add it to the season that it belongs.

The second section includes my urban garden bed preparation for winter.

1) Built a block boarder to hold in soil that was eroding all over the sidewalks and out into the city drain. I used a run of the mill block that you see everywhere. Since I already had them, I used them. You can harvest bricks, pavers and an assortment of boarder creating items from houses being remodeled and habitat for humanity in your area usually has recycled building materials.

A few months ago the house across the street from where COE and I have been renovating began to be remodeled. I approached the new owner about the piles of bricks and pavers being thrown off the house and around the property. Since he was not interested in them, he wanted a modern look he was more than happy to let me have as many as I wanted. For me it is very important to be sustainable and thrifty. For the new owner he saved himself quit a bit of labor as well as dumping costs by me taking the materials off his hands. Whether you need the items or not at the time you come across them should not be an issue. You can store them, share them with others and if you are going to create and urban farm you will find so many uses for these used materials.

2) The bricks created a raised bed and since there was not enough soil in the garden bed. I had to bring in soil from other areas of the yard where too much soil was an issue. I added several wheel barrows of depleted soil. I will be building many different types of layers on top of the soil to fortify it. It is not necessary to have good soil, nature and I can make it good soil by spring.

I left about 4 inches of room from the top of the bricks to the soil and will be filled in with soil makings.

3) I was lucky to have piles of horse poopy here in the property that was delievered here a few months ago. I spread a medium layer of horse dropings over the soil. There was a bail of straw that was left from last fall which was rotting slowly.  Rottening is perfect to rebuild new soil. I spread out all the straw on top of the soil and horse poopy. I was able to use the straw. Otherwise I might have had to move it, take it to the dump more than likely. Again sustainabilty, using what you have, using what you can find close, using what someone else might have, saving money, saving labor, saving time and most of all saving out planet. The less we consume the less is manufactured and the less that ends up as waste in a land fill some where.

4) I had some old stumps and limbs, old dead wood laying around. Instead of tossing the old wood into the old garbage can I placed big chunks all over the garden bed. The old wood will break down slower giving the bed long term fuel, food to break down and turn into soil over time. Remember not to add materials that have toxic chemicals, those items should be removed from your yard properly, discarded properly of.

5) I watered the garden bed area to keep the material from blowing away and to assist with the breaking down. While I watered I thought good thoughts to the water coming out of the hose onto the garden bed. I thought good thoughts to the soil, the insects, the materials and to the forces of nature that will be working to break it all down and turning it into the best garden soil. This will support every need of the plants and provide very nutrient rich food for the bodies of the people eating it and in some cases animals as well.

6) There is a load of rich compost coming in a few days to place on top of what is there so far. It will get about a 3 inch cover of compost over the top. If you have a place in which you can create your own compost piles, go for it. The more your hand and heart are involved with what grows. Creating whats needed on your own land makes better medicine for the earth and will provide you with medicine as food back to you. More water. More good thoughts.

7) Lastly another layer of chips, wood chipswill come and be added to the top. Water and good thoughts.

In Nevada it can be extremely dry even in winter, check your garden bed weekly to make sure there is enough moisture to create the break down of the materials. Winterizing your garden bed for spring should be an annual activity.

In Your Own Backyard…

blackberries 3

Yesterday the last day of September 2011 we were out late afternoon picking blackberries off a very old mother blackberries bush. I am not sure if she could be categorized as a bush, check out the photos yourself.

After returning to Nevada in July after a 3 month large urban farm internship on the northern California coast I began to look at the area in which I was living much closer. The photos are taken in the old Sparks area. In most of our older areas of towns and cities you can find many old apple trees, peach trees, blackberries bushes and much more. With in a 3 block radius here in Sparks where I am renovating a yard I have found so many food producing plants growing on their own. I harvested 3 paper bags of peaches from the neighbors tree a few weeks ago. I Shared these beautiful and i have to say tasty peaches with 4 other families across the street. I told this tree eveyday how lovely she was and felt deep kindness towards her and it paid off in the sweetest fruit.

The issues that these old neighborhoods are facing as a result of the economic systems failing us are tragic. In the old Sparks area meth addicts and drug dealers make up a large percentage of houses being lived in. Many of these houses are no longer kept up and as a direct result the old food producing plants are dieing and under large amounts of stress due to the negative energy produced by drugs and the effects on the people taking them. we are loosing food supplies!

Notice the dog in the photos? That is my Gin Gin. She is the offical Super hero of this old community. Gin is 9 months old. She was living at a meth house across the street from where I am renovating and it is also around the block from where we were picking the blackberries in the alley way.  Gin Gin never seemed to have water in her yard, she was escaping constantly in the way of cars roaring down the street, she lived off of diapers and cat shit literally. I finally rescued her over 2 months ago. She is the smartest dog I have ever known. She is now my official peace keeper urban farm dog. Gin has some how become symbolic of this old community. Gin is fast becoming the love of my life! She loves anything I feed her, she especially loved the blackberries and goobled them as we picked them.

Without going off the deep end here i think that we all need to consider being a better part of our communities in different ways than the usual thinking process leads us.

Have you ever wondered your 3 block area and looked at what kind of plants and trees ar growing there? Are they food baring plants? Do the plants need pruning, cleaning up or maybe some compost to help feed them? Could they be removed to a better location and who could help with that? Could the fruits be removed? Could the fruits be taken to places where families in need could take them home? There are so many movements in this time period that are answering many of the questions I just asked and maybe your involvement in the future could benefit not only the plants, trees, earth, but could vey well benefit yourself, others and our animals. Just looking around and noticing sometimes all it takes for a bigger picture to open up to us. Lifting our eyes to the sky can open our minds.

We have such negitive news weighing on us day in and day out, I find getting away from it, digging in the dirt, touching a plant, a tree, an animal or another person with my hand and heart can uplift me in any situation. We are all in this together, all of us together, letting go of judgement finding what makes us more the same.

A group of us picked the most amazing blackberries yesterday, I came home and made a pie, it was so tasty, pure, it had love in it from the mother blackberry bush. She loves us for sharing in what she offers us, what she has grown for us and it is up to us to give her a future to contiue to feed us.

I encourage everyone to investigate your area in which you live, take a look and see what is growing there. If you find fruit gt prmission to pick it, then find a kid to help you harvest, any kid will do. Many kids have no idea where food comes from any more, our health, our future depends on educating them and that may mean educating ourselves on the same  issues as well.
